Meet the Sisters

Megan Hines - President

Being a part of the Lambda chapter has really been a blessing in so many ways.  I didn’t just find friends when I joined, but I found a family that could only have been formed by God!  I will never be able to forget the amazing women that I have met, and will continue to meet.  This sorority has seen me at my best, at my very worst and all the moments in between. Some of my very best memories in college are with my sisters. My sisters continue to encourage me in my walk with God and they inspire me to be the best me I can be!  When we say that you’re a sister forever, the Lambdas mean sister forever!  These are the girls that have gone to my wedding, will be at my baby showers, and will be there to call whenever I need them.  It’s a rare thing to find a group of women in college who not only love Jesus, but get along being so completely unique in their own individual ways.  Proverbs 18:24 sums it all up pretty well, “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” I have been a part of the sorority since spring of 2009 and this is my last year as an undergrad.  I am so sad at the idea of leaving, but I am so excited to see where the sorority will go in years to come!  Rock on Lamb-das of God!

Sigma Alpha Omega has opened my eyes.  I have always wanted to get involved in the community but I never looked into it.  Joining SAO has helped me grow as an individual.  Becoming a chair for a committee has required me to step up as a leader.  Tabling has also helped me become more outgoing and sociable.  I have found myself willing to go to other tables and talk to them about Ovarian Cancer.  I love Sigma Alpha Omega! It has definitely kept me busy throughout the semester.

I joined SAO Lambda Chapter in the spring of 2011, after being introduced to the sisters in the fall. After committing my life to Christ in 2010 as a freshman in college, I felt it necessary to surround myself with those who felt the same way about wanting to walk with the Lord, and the fellowship we needed to help with that. After meeting the sisters, I was immediately drawn to the sorority more. The girls were welcoming, encouraging, and most of all loving. I was invited to multiple events where I felt involved and included without being a sister and it didn't take me long to know I wanted to be. Since joining, the hard work and responsibility aspects have set in, but it is still amazing none the less. My sisters and I, because we’re so small, must rely on each other even more, and I see us more as a family than a sorority. I love the fact that we are small. It allows us to be involved in each other’s lives in more than just a weekly meeting or social event. We open up about our lives and are vulnerable with each other, making it all the more rewarding when we overcome obstacles as a family. Joining SAO has truly been a blessing and I’m excited to see what more God has in store for me and my sisters.

When I first began attending Chico State I had was interested in joining a sorority.  After checking out some of the Pan Hellenic and multicultural sororities, I decided against it.  In Fall 2011 I saw a student announcement for a Christian Sorority and decided to check it out.  After meeting some of the girls, I instantly knew this sorority was different.  I appreciated how small and close-knit the chapter was, like a true sisterhood.  I also knew a Christ-centered sisterhood would help keep me on my destined path.  Since joining the sorority I feel like I have Christian sisters who will be there for me and hold me accountable.

I came to Chico State last year and immediately found a Christian group on campus. But for the first semester, it felt like I was struggling to connect with people. I knew I wasn't going to make best friends in a day, but it seemed like something was missing. At my Junior College I didn't have many super close girl friends, and I began to wonder if in Chico if I was going to have any. Recruiting with Sigma Alpha Omega that spring brought me girlfriends. Most of all, it has taught me how to interact with other girls. I think that has been super important. Well past Junior High, females subject to gossiping, and I’ve noticed in other sororities; that they sure know how to break girls down better than to build them up. It takes conscious effort on my part with effective communication being a daily struggle; I am learning to make good girlfriends but mostly how to be a good girlfriend. I have found sisters that love me for me, for how silly I am, and that love how I snort when I laugh. I am also learning how to be there for them, to be a good listener, a voice of wisdom, and a shoulder to cry on. I love Sigma Alpha Omega, my sisters, and the difference it’s made my life through the power of Jesus Christ; and Him making this organization known and available to me.
